Bandai Tends to make ultimately Strong New York Anime Festival Announcements
Bandai Entertainment created a definite splash in the New York Anime Festival/Comic Con currently depending on what you happen to be serious about. The panel covered a number of properties and in essence seriously only had one particular new license announcement, but they also provided significant Gundam news for old school fans, touch on KOn! at the same time as a long requested Bluray release.
Bandai announced that they've finally, lastly, acquired the Japanese language rights towards the original Mobile Suit Gundam series, something that feels odd typing as there is consistently been an additional word immediately after Gundam on account of all of the spinoff series. The show will likely be released in bilingual format in two Anime Legends components in 2011 using the 42 episode series getting a proper release. Previously, the only edition attainable was the dubonly Tv releases (which never ever produced it to a full collection) or the 3 compilation motion pictures that several take into consideration to be superior to the Television series.
Bandai also announced that they've managed to acquire the release of Gundam Unicorn on DVD, although it will be staggered in the Bluray release that is obtaining a simultaneous worldwide release as they come out. The DVD editions will feature two episodes per disc, making it a three disc release, for $30 a disc. No dates or specs are yet set, particularly as the second Gundam Unicorn OVA has however to become released.
Fans of KOn! will probably be delighted to understand that it will be obtaining a Bluray release, but fans of KOn! in general may possibly be dismayed that it as well as the DVD release shall be carried out over four volumes. It will likely be released in both normal and restricted editions for each and every volume (29.98, 39.98 for the DVD with CD inclusion because the LE, 34.98 and 44.98 respectively for the Bluray editions with CD for the limited there). No tracks have yet been decided along with the release is planned for the spring of 2011.
Bandai also touched on the Haruhi film though only stating it would be released inside the spring of 2011 and no specs are prepared but.
The panel also revealed the long though awaited Bluray announcement for the Girl Who Leapt Through Time, but declined to supply specs or even a 2011 and date for it.
The new licensing announcement for the panel was the a great deal anticipated Gundam 00 theatrical movie which will be bilingual but nothing further has been decided but.
they nonetheless wont say if KOn will be a hybrid bluray, or will we be stuck with english only, I wish to know, plus the entire 4 disc release thing is not a significant deal, kinda closer towards the japanese releases, but still less expensive epecially if it will likely be hybrid.
that may be one from the reaons I havent bought kurokami on bluray is due to it getting english only
never ever liked gundam, so something gundam releated is really a pass for me anyway,
but I hope they retain the original style of situations for Kon, and I hope the LE's shall be worth it, I'll just wait for the review, then determine to get it or not
(In ahead of hectotane makes the usual "bancoholding" rant.)
Gotta agree, Calibur454. For Bandai, it is 1 step forward, two methods backwards, and a single step inside the wrong direction (in other words, company as usual).
You'd assume that just after releasing Haruhi Season two on DVD as a set that they would've learned their lesson, that singles don't sell anymore. Properly, looks like they've learned practically nothing at all, as they're releasing KOn the same way they released Haruhi S.1 and Lucky Star (sorry, hardcore collectors, but there's a purpose why Ideal Stuf was promoting off a huge provide of limited editions of all the Haruhi and most of the Fortunate Star DVDs at deep discounts, and it definitely wasn't since they sold like hotcakes. mmm, hotcakes). If it didn't perform three years ago, considerably less two years ago, odds are it will not perform out like they had planned. I appear forward to the KOn Anime Legends box set in late 2012 or 2013 (and by "box set", I imply "four discs shoehorned into a case meant for only one").
Yeah, I am glad they are acquiring back in to the BluRay game with "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time", but they are still miles behind the competition with regards to BluRays (hell, even Sentai Filmworks has/will have released more BluRay series and movies by the finish of this year than Bandai will prior to the finish of next year).
You'd believe with a lighter release schedule, they'd essentially buckle down and rerelease a number of Bandai Visual's titles at a lower price. Nope, as an alternative we get Gundam Unicorn on DVD for $30 per twoepisode DVD release. Has nothing been learned in the entire Bandai Visual USA debacle? And what is worse will be the "Haruhichan/Nyoron Churuyasan" miniseries is being released as a twoparter for $25 a disc when it should've been performed as a single disc (preferably as a part of the Haruhi S.2 DVD set).
I was truly hoping that factors would've changed for the greater by the finish of the year. Alas, Ken Iyadomi, Robert Napton and Loy Fruel are even more outofsync with general anime fandom than Milli Vanilli and their singing (appear it up, children).
